RECREATION GROUNDS.

ENTERTAINMENT I\ ALEXANDRA HALL. Tub entertainment given in the Alexandra i Hall on Thursday night for the benefit of J the Recreation Grounds was well patronised. ] The receipts totalled about £20, nnd after ■ meeting oxpense9 the management hope ' to nett abont £12. The programme that was submitted to entertain tho audience was a capital one, several of the numbers being encored The two orchestial items by Mr Garry's orchestra wore received with great favor. The tableaux, which were a feature of the ent- rtaintnent, were made very effective by colored lights. The representations were "A ' Japanese Tea Party,'" " Queen Katherine's Vision, from ' King Henry V 111.'," " Ophelia in tho graveyard scene, from Hamlet," " Pharaoh's Daughter," adaptocf from tho famous picture by E. Long, R.A. Sl iss Yates was encored for a vocal bolo. Miss Hnlse's piano boo, and MrC. Rogers' recication were well received. A vocal quartette, " Good, Ni^ht, Beloved," by Mrs Brook, Miss Mazey, Messrs Rowlinson, and Webster, was capitally rendered Mies Nellie Hurethousp, who made ber debut as a vocalist, won well deserved applause for the song "Ala Stella Confidento" (with 'cello obligato by Mr F. W Richmond). Mr C. B. Shaw won an encore for a vocal bolo, and the Misses Old field were warmly applauded for a piano duet. Misses Newland and Hursthousc responded to an encore for the vocal duet, " I've wandered in dreams.' Mrs Nixon sang "The Toilers" with her customary ability, and won well-merited applause. The song " Swanee River," (illustrated), was nicely given by Misses .Uazoy and Hamerton, and Messrs Wobb-Bowen and Rowlinson, with full chorug. The National Anthem concluded the programme. Tl:o stage was prottiiy decorated with a fine collection of flowers, etc., which generously sup plied by Mr Mitchinson, of the Caledonian Nursery,
