DIRECTORY OF TARANAKI, HAWKE'S BAY, AND WELLINGTON.
Messrs Stone, Son, & Co. have produced a dire.tory of tho southern portion of the North Island in a man nor that redounds to their credit. For some years this firm has published a directory of Otago and Southland, which was so neatly got up that at first even experienced printers doubted if such a publication was produced in tie colony. It wns, however, found to be corrected up to date of its being issued, which was conclusivo that tho book had been produced in the colony at a well managed office by experienced workmen. Messrs Stone, Sod, & Co. have now extended their operations to thoNoith Island, and have produced a directory that eclipsos not only all other books of a liko description that havo been published, but albo their own previous efforts. Tho book consists of over oight hundred pages, being 250 more than laFt year, although the price is unchanged. Tho information lias been gathered l>y j specially trained compilers, who havo visited every house in each district they passed throu.'li. To sho v how porfect is this Directory we may etito that we received a press telegram tho other day in which tho name of some woman at Curterton was mentioned who had been poisoned through a medicine bottle being wrongly labelled. The name was so smudged over on the telegram that it was very illegible, it being almost impossible to decipher any of tho letters. Wo, however, turned to Ckrterton, and wore at onco able to give tho name correct'y. Tho directory contains the names of everyone living in tho Provincial districts of Taranaki, Hawke's Bay, ami Wellington, including, of couise, Wanganui and other places within those district?. It has also a street directory of Now Plymouth and other cities and town?. Incorporated with the work is tho "New Zealand Annual," containing an official directory of tho colony, railway', coaching, postal, and telegraph information. Customs tariff with exemption and decision to date of going to press, New Zealand, Australian and British States, a digest of tho Acts passed last section, and a quantity of u.eful information which we havo not space to enumerate. Thoro me also maps in tho Directory which have been specially prepaiod for tho work, which is the largest of the kird produced in the colony. The book ia substantially bound in scarlet cloth, nud as we have stated the information it tontaius is complete, accurate, compre hensivo, and systematically arranged. The volume reflects great credit upon the enterprising firm who published it. Mr Bailey, tl.o representative of Messrs Stone, S^on, & Co., will be in New Plymouth about the end cf the week, when he will deliver the volume to subscribers.
