LAND BOARD.

Tub Land Board met on Monday. Present. Messrs Strauchan (Commissioner of Crown Lands, Chairman), J. Livingston, O. X; Stock, and Col. Trimble. Disposal of Tldrds. — A circular was re- I ceived from tho Department of Land and ' Burvey, Wellington, relative to works to be dono with thirds and fourths payable to local bodies. The circular road as follows : — Attention ia called to the noceßsity for definitely ascertaining in every case what works are to bo done by local bodies with the proceeds of thirds and fourths before the money is paid to them. The exact position, length, and character of the work to be done must be ■stated by the local body, and you should subsequently see that the work lias been performed in accordance therewith, and an account must be kept of the sumo for the purposes of the annual report us is ahcady done in some districts. A general pro posal such as " to givo acceEH to cortain land" or "to repair roals" mußt not be accepted, the special work or purpose must be stated definitely, in order that it can be ascertained whether or not it has been carried out, and you are requested to decline !to pass any application that does not comply with these requirements. In cases where the thirds, etc., have been hypothecated for re-payments of loans under Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, the above description will not apply, but a careful account must be kept of the same. Lani Sales. — The following applications for lands were approved by tho Board :—: — G. McLean, sec 100, block 8, Waimate, 80 acres, for cash ; A. E. Dixon, unsurveyod land in block 16, Opaku, 600 acres, lease in perpetuity ; E. Murdoc ■>, sec 9, block 4, Waimate ; J. N. Brodnck, 6ec 46, block 12, Egmont ; T. L. Joll, sec 75, block 4, Wuiinate. Capitalised Value. — W. H. Denne applied to pay off capitalised value of sec 38, block 1, Oeo. It was decided that upon payment of interest to date the license be extended to 14 years from the original date thereof. SAb-letting .— Tho application of A. M. L. Thomson to sublet a portion of d.p sco 41, block 1, Huiroa, to Reynolds & Co. for dairy factory purpose, was agreed to Extension -for Improvement f. — The following applicants were granted an exten sion to March 31, 1894, to effect the necessary improvements : — J. Say well, sec 29, Uock 7, Kaupokonui ; E. M Warn^ck, soc 8, block 12, Huirca. Egmont Bond Board.— The plan of proposed expenditure of accrued thirds by the Egmont Road Board was approved, the necessary plans having been submitted. Moa Road Board. — The plan of proposed expenditure of £467 7s 4d of thirds by the Moa Road BonrJ was also approved. QOBB Road. — A letter was received from Jacob Mtschuwski and W. Mackio asking that the Manganui Road Board be urged to proceed with tho deviation of the Cross Road through sec 47, block 14, Huiroa, as the thirds accrued had already been paid over to tho Board for that purpose. — It was resolved to send a copy of the letter to the chairman of the Road Board with a request that a report upon the subject be submitted in time for the next meeting, and further, that the attention of the Road Board be called to sec 132 of "The Land Act, 1892." Kapon<ja —G. A. Hurley, on behalf of M. W. McNclies, applied for a yoarly tenancy of Bee 24, Kaponga Village, and offered a rent of 5s per annum for the same. — The Board decided to point out that it could only be dealt with under sec 23, of " The Public Reserves Act, 1881." Wuitara. — C. W. Hornblow wroto pointing out that Block 71, Waitara West, town, which was leased to him on a yoarly tenancy in March last, had already been leased to J. Hay, and that four sections (9, 10, 11, and 12), block 77, also leased to him were sold to J. Colson in February, 1887; and ho asked that he be allowed to leaso blocks 75, 7t>, and the remainder of block 77 (seen 1 to 8 inclusive), at 30s per annum. — The application was referred to tho Ranger for a report on this and the other undisposed lands in the township. Patea. — F. Long, Postmaster at Patea, applied for permission to use portion of blo:k 37, Patca.— The Board decided to inform applicant that they do not object to his occupying as a tenant ut will Opunalc. — The Opunake Town Board wrote asking if tho Department could tako action in an endeavor to prevent encroachment of tho Waiaua river on Crown binds in tho town district. — Tho Ranger was instructed to report on the matter, and afterwards that a copy ot the letter and report be sent to the Ministor of Lands for his information; and that the Town Board be notified of this dec'sion. St> afford. — The clerk of tho Stratford County Council, Mr W. G. Malone, waited upon the Board in respect to the mode ot obtaining the approval of the Board to the proposals of the County for the expenditure of accrued thirds, and the necessity for showing on maps the locality of the proposed expenditure —In the course of a long interview, the Board expressed the opinion that the proposed works should bo indicated on plans or tracings, and submitted with the schedule. Supposed Evasion of Act.— The Ohairman produced documentary evidence of an alleged case of evasion of the Land Act in respect of sec 7, block 8, Ngaire, held on perpetual lease by S. Eason. — It was decided, " T'rnt tho so'ector, S. Eason, be notified to appear beforo a specia 1 meeting of tho L-nd Board, to be hold on Tuesday, August 14th, to hoar cause why his lease of llie said section should not be forfeited for non-compliance with the provisions of •The Land Act, 1892.'" The Board adjourned.
