Melbourne, July 24. An earthquake occurred in the Castlemaiue district on Sunday ; houses were rocked violently, and in some cases smashed, Sydney, July 24. The Kate Tathan has arrived from Mongonui, after a protracted voyage, short of provisions. Speaking at Pcnrith, the Premier said the Government would endeavour to abolish payment of members in the new Parliament. They would make the question one of the next election cries. They also proposed to introduce a bill next session to earmark the revenue, in order to proviJe interest on the public debt, and to set aside a quarter of a million to establish a sinking fund to wipe out the public debt. They oxpected to go to the country in March next year. Perth, July 24. The revcuue of Western Australia for the year ended June '60, shows an advance of £75,000 ; tho credit balance •f the colony stands at £63,000.
