The reduction in tho passage rates from England to New Zealand has induced *80 farmers with capiial to emigrate to the colony.
The death is announced at Napier, of Mr Robert Dobson, from pleurisy, who died on Friday last at the ago of 41. Deceased was manager of the Northern Investment Company, and was lately commissioned to realise the assets of the Colonial Investment and Agency Company in Otago.
A novelty in the shape of two performing boars will visit Now Plymouth, opening on tho reclaimed land, Oiirrie-street, tomorrow (Tuesday) and Wednesday overlings. These bears aro something superior to the usual class of street performing bears, and show a wonderful amount of intelligence. The proprietors, Messrs Soquet Bros., are propa r ed to put down £100 to make a match with any wrestler to wrestle ono of their boars, two falls out of three, in a style to be shown by the brothers. Such v ma cli wouid certainly draw a crowd.
A meeting of members of tho Gymnasium Club was ho!d in the National Bank Chambers on Saturday night for the purpose of considering tho udvisabil ty of amalgamating with tho Volunteor Gymnasium Club. It was decidd after discussion to amalgamate at tho end of the present quarter, which will expire at tho beginning of next month As it wns do tried desirable that members should attend the Volunteer meeting this (Mon day) ovening, tho. ordinary practice was postponed till Wednesday.
Professor Theodoro Lichtwurk, who, by the way, is a eon of tho Professor Lblitwark who was round this district about seven years ago, will give a froo lecture on " Educating tho Horse ' at tho Alexandra Uall on Thursday next. He enjoys a very groat reputation as a horso turner, and holds excellent testimonials as to his abil.tv in subduing tho wildest and most obstinate unimaln.
