HAROUR BOARD ELECTOIN.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — I feel it is only due to those gontlemen who have nominated me for the election of a member of the Harbour Board, to explain my reasons for declining to contest tho aoat
In tho first place, Mr A. C. Fookes, who ia nominated, is a fit and proper person for the offico, and is on the spot where the services of members of the Board are required, and is able to devote time to the duties. Next, I am already a member of the Harbour Protection Committee, and hope to be of service in that capacity. And, lastly, acontes'aci election will cost about; £40, whilst the Board wants every shilling it can save for improving tho harbour; and I think, therefore, that any man should refrain from. causing such a large pecuniary loss to tho public if any fit person is already nominated. — I am, &c, G. W. Browne.
