STRANGE STORY OF A DIAMOND RING.
Tub Morning Leader states that a Uampatead lady came into town by 'bus a few days ago to do some shopping. Next to her in the vehicle sat a well dressed man, displaying on his hands v number of rings, including a valuable diamond one. The 'ady had her pocket picked some time between Hampstead and'the establishment whore she dii her shopping On returning home and informing her l.usband of this he, good man, asked if she was quite 8(iro tho purse was gone '• Perhips it is in one ot the corners, and you've overlooked it," he said. To convince him by ocular demonstration, she proceeded to turn her pocket inside out. Lo ! as the po ket was gradually pulled out to its full depth, something dropped from its innermost icce^us on to (he floor —something round and yollow, th it glittered as it rolled along the floor. Tho ring — for ring it was — was s on being examined by an expert. His oyo soon detected a treasure such as seldom came in his way. " I'll lend you £50" — for he was ii pawnbroker— ho slid briefly. "I only want to know what it is worth," said the lady " Worth 1 ' rejoined tho expert, " why it's worth i'2so. ' The upahot of it wns that the husband took tho bauble to ) Scot'an '-yard, where it must lie for three , months to see if anyonu claims it before I becoming tho property of tho finder. How f it got into the lad) 's pocket is a matter cf 'conjecture.
