Lord and Lady Jersey recently gave a garden pifty in Sydney to which tho ; moinbers of the Boys' Brigade and tho •newspaper boys -were invited. Tlio lads each hud a yard Bent to them which 'ran as follows. " The Governor and Countess of Jersey request the pleasure of William Jonea' company at a garden party at Government House, on December 29 at three o'clock." Tho invitation waa generally accepted, Borne boys coming tidily drossed, but the majority were in their usual everyday costume. The boys woro amused during the afternoon with sovoral games provided, and at six o'clock they all woro assembled in a marquee wbcro refreshment consisting of bread, meat and pickles, cake, jam, fruit and lollies, and tea woro provided, 'iho boys after grace had been said "foil to" with astonishing vigor. They did not seem to understand taking things in courses, but mixed tho whole up generally, but what amazed tho ladies and gentlemon most was their clamour for " mere picklos." Lord and Lady Jereey sot an examplo of waiting on tho guests which was followed by others. One of tho lads addressing Lord Jersey caid "Pleaso Guv'ner, chuck us over tho pickles," and anothor said to Lady Jersey ." I say, missus ; give us some mote tea." Speeches were made, and the Governor and Lady Jersey cheered over again ; and when si'enco had almost been restored, one specially grateful youth called put.
