TO BTAND THIS SEASON AT BELL BLOCK. frMft-tfgfl THE THOROUGH!]yS3r%£ BRED stallion tisAtimmm The^ Australian* The Australian (late War Eagle) was bred by Mr W. Garrnrd, of Rapid Bay, South Australia, and sold as a yearling foi 600 guineas. He is a dark brown horse, with black points, and stands 15 hands 3| inched high, and is a sure foal getter, two mares only out of sixty-nine, so far as oan be ascertained at present, having missod during the past season. Pedigree: The Australian, by Tregeagle (imported), out of Qrdeal (imported), by Touchstone out of Mrs Fowler, by Heron (sire of Fisherman), gg d Muley, out of Sister to Pope, by Shuttle, &o. The Australian is a fine tempered animal and sound. A glance at the abovo pedigree will show The Australian possesses the most fashionable blood of the day. Being a grandson of the mighty Touchstone ought to oonvinoe the most foßtidious breeder of horse stook that such a strain ib not to be obtained elsewhere at such a low fee. The Australian is the sire of Torpedo, who last raoing season so greatly distinguished himself, " sweeping the pool " at Nelson and Taranaki J.O. Boxing Day meeting, and cutting out the mile and a-bal£ at Wanganui in 2min 42eeo (beaten by half a length by Montrose II) ; SIBiDS, Flukem, Maoaboni, The Obfhan, all substantial winners, and others. A 3-year-old brother to Flukem is valued by hiß owners at £100. lsir Last seaßon The Australian's stock won £618, being in advance of the progeny of such highly-prioed stud horses as The Dauphin, Anteros, King Cole, Asoot, Foul Play, Armament, Sou'wester, &o. As all The Austialian's stock are from half-bred mares, the inference is that when mated with better bred mares something very superior will be produced. The increasing value of The Australian's stook is evidenoed by the large priced commanded by his offspring, numbers from common mares having realised very high pricos, and owners not caring to part with them at all since Taranulsi brod horses have distinguished themselves all ovor the colony. Further particulars and tabulated pedigree may be obtained from the groom in charge A litniUd number of mares only will bt | taken FEE : £5 (£4 if paid at let service), payable by promissory note, duo Ist January, 1892 ; 10s payable on first service.
