It is stated in political circles that, in the event of a change of Government, Mr James Service, M.L.C., will be asked to become Premier, at the same time retaining his seat in the Upper House. Sydney, November 17. Thirty master tailors have conceded the men's demands for an increase of wages. It is understood Sir Henry Parkes has no present intention of resigning his seat. He will not take part in the leadership of the Opposition. In consequence of information re-! ceived from India, Mr Rudyard Kipling cut short his Australian tour, and sailed for India yesterday. Hobart, Novamber 17. The Legislative Assembly has passed the Protection of Telegrams Bill, which gives protection to all telegrams for forty-eight hours. NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS. LA GRIPPE IN WAIRARAPA. Masterton, November 17. La grippe is becoming epidemic in North Wairarapa, whole families being prostrated and business places being closed ; shearing operations are affeoted by it. No fatalities are reported.
