HE ARRIVES AT WAIKATO. . 1 | PER PRKSS ASSOCIATION.! | Adokland, September 23. — The Hon. J. Bryce was interviewed by quite a large [ -number of Auckland residents and friends, ' many taking the opportunity of calling on him to express their sympathy with him in 1 his present position, after the recent ' incident in the House of Representatives ' which led to his resignation. He had an ' informal interview of an hour on Monday , | with the council of the newly formed National Association, but nothing has been allowed to transpire as to the topics discussed or the views expressed. \ He left Auckland by the train for | Waikato on Tuesday morning, and on arrival at Ohaupo, a large and enthusiastic crowd of settlers met him, and gave him a ' hearty welcome to the Waikato. It was ' a cattle sale day, and the auction was 1 temporarily adjourned to enable the 1 settlers to show a mark of respoct an I ' eßteem for their late member. Mr Bryce | made no formal address, but went about among the settlers chatting on the recent 1 Parliamentary episode. 1 In the evening, Mr Bryce addressed a J meeting in a feeling speech, bidding fare1 well to his late constituents. The following 1 resolution was passed : — "That thiß meeting , entirely sympathises with Mr Bryce in tho - unmerited injustice the Government has ' endeavoured to put upon him, and wish to : place on record our unabated confidence in 1 him now, and hope, at some future time he 1 might again represent us."

Board deferred the application till next [ meeting, pending enquiries. i The following motion by Mr Wade was 1 deferred at the Education Board meeting J on Wednesday till next meeting. " That one or more pupil teachers be appointed to the Central School, all such appointments 1 to be on three months' probation, to enable ! the Board to draw from that school assistant or pupil teachers, as occasion may arise to take temporary charge of a country [ school or class." i It is the intention of the Star Football j Club to hold a carnival on the racecourse 1 on November 9 Particulars will be advertised in due course.
