PECULIAR DIVORCE CASE. Wellington, September 19. A peculiar divorce case was heard by the Chief Justice this morning, Margaret Josephine Dunn, formerly a school mistress at Reefton, sued for a divorce trom "Walter Essen Cross, of Wellington, on tho ground of the latter's bigamy. The evidence showed he had been married in London in 1872, to a wife, still living, and testified in Court. It further appeared he had told Miss Dunn when he married her (witness) that he bad another wife, who had died after the second mprriage. There was no appearance of Cross, and a decree nisi was granted to be made absolute in fourteen days.
Sir R. Stout has received telegrams from all parts of the country urging him to contest tho Christchurch seat, but replied definitely declining, as engagements will not permit. The Star Football Team journeyed to Waitara this afternoon to play a return with the Ti Ti Kangi native team.
