TO THE KDITOR. Sir,—l notice in a report of a recent conviction for drunkenness it was mentioned that the Resident Magistrate asked the accused where he procured the liquor, thus conveying the impression that he had adopted the same practice as has been severely commented on in Auckland and elsewhere. It is only fair, therefore, to point out that in this case the accused man had a prohibition order in force againt him ; so that the question, which would doubtless havo otherwise been most objectionable, was not only justifiable, but necessary—l am, &c, Observer. 17th September, 1891.
