» ■■ DEATH OF MRS J. STEPHENSONSMITH. We regret having to record the death of Mrs J. Stophenson-Smith, which sad event occurred At her residence on Monday evening. For Borne time past she has been suffering from a painful illness ; but her .death was more sudden than was expected. She arrived in the colonies with her husband and family in the ship Pekin early in 1850, and the late Mr J. J Stephenson-Smith was for several years | Chief Postmaster at New Plymouth. In j 1865 he was appointed . Crown Lands Commissioner, which he held to his death which occurred in 1875. Mr J. Stephenson-Smith wus also Sheriff of the district, and a Justice of the Peace. The deceased lady leaves three sons and three daughters, the eldest of the former being Mr S. Percy Smith, Surveyor-General, and oho of the latter is married to Colonel Gorton, of Rangitikei. Mrs J. StephensonSmith was a lady who endeared herself not only to the immediate members of her family, .but to many friends also, who, we are sure, sympathise with the family in their bereavement.
