NEW ZEALAND TELEGRAMS. SHOCKING SHOOTING ACCIDENT.
Danevirke, July 20. A shocking accident occurred here yesterday, A man uamod, Smith, a bush
contractor, was out shooting with two sons. They were coming home to dinner, when the father said ho must get another bird. The youngest boy, Freak Charles, rushed by, saying " I see a pigeon." Irau^cdiatoly the gun went oil, the charge entering the head oi the boy, (who was cloven years old) behind the ear, killing him instantly. The lad was only a few feet distant at the time. SUSPECTED POISONING CASE. Timaru, July 21. For some days past rumors have been rife that representations had been made to the Colonial Secretary upon which ho had directed that the body of John Hayhurst, who died at Temuka in April, 1889, and buried in Temuka Cemetery; should be exhumed and an inquest held. The inquest opens this morning. An analysis of the stomach and other parts of the body -will be made by Professor Black,, of Otago University. Hayhurst was one of the early settlers in Souih Canterbury, and was possessed of a largo amount of property, which was taken possession of under a will by his only son.
