LAND BOARD
The Waste Lands Board met on Monday, Bfch June. Present : The Commissioner of Crown Landa, Messrs Kelly, Livingston, and Stand iali.
Deputation. — Messrs E. M. Smith, M.H.R., and A. Govenlock, waited on tho Board respecting the price of the land in blocks 3 aud 4, Huiroa, and block 15, Waitara. Mr Kelly moved that as the Board had no power to deal with the matter owing to the " Selectors' Lands Revaluation Act 1889" not applying to the case in consequence of the sale having taken place after Ist January, 1888, the Board recommend the Government to extend the operation of the said act so as to meet the present case, as the Board considers tho case should be enquired into and relief given where necessary. Applications for Land. — Mr R. O'Donovan applied for sec 2, block XIII., Upper Waitara, 710 acres, and sec 4, block 1., Ngatimaru, 988 acres on perpetual lease at 6d per acre. Granted. Mr Walter Ryley applied to purchase sec 19, block XV., Huiroa ; 210 acres at 17s 6d per acre. Granted.
Transfer, — The following applications to transfer were granted :— Executors ,of the late James Hayes, sec 98, block XI., Kaupokonui, deferred payment, to F. Cowern : J. W. Falkner, sec 106, block VII., Waimate, deferred paj'rnent, to Catherine Bolger ; T. J. Billing, sec 5, block 11., Opunake, perpetual lease, to W. White; C. Melville, sec 96, block XL, Kaupokonui, to S. D. Bulmer.
Arrears. —Mr J. P. Clifford was granted an extension of time to December 31st, 1891, for making the payments on sec. 9, block XV., Waitara. A similar application from Mr G. W. Gano was deferred.
University Reserve. — A communication was received from the Suivey or- General respecting the land adjoining the University Reserve in the Wairoa Road District. It was resolved that the Government be recommenled to offer this block for sale provided the land be surveyed before sale, and the Board recommend the Government to have the balance of the University Reserve subdivided at the same time.
Survey. — A survey was ordered to be made of land applied for by Mr J. C. George, and the matter to be further considered at the next meeting of the Board. Increasing Staff. — In the absence of Mr Marchant, Mr Livingston brought forward the motion calling the attention of the Government to the need for strengthening the survey staff in this district. Carried.
Opening Roads — Mr Livingston also moved Mr Marchant's resolution, repre- • senting to the Government the desirability of either metallingtheroadto theMangaere and Mangaotuku Blocks before sale, or of giving an assurance that the road will be metalled within a reasonable time. — Carried.
Mimi Block. — The Board fixed the prices of this block as recommended by the Surveyor. Road Board Schedules — The following schedules were approved of : — Manganui Road Board, £110 2s lOd; Ngaire Road Board, £8£ 16s 4d; Stratford Town Board, £13 7s 6d; Clifton County Council, 1 12s 6d.
Capitalisation. — Mr A. E. Watkin applied to capitalise section 48, block iv., Kaupokonu i. — Approved. Salisbury Road. — The Manganui Road Board's scheme for metalling this road was, on the report of the Ranger, acceded to. Anticipating Revenue. — The Ngaire Road Board wished to anticipate deferred payment revenue for expenditure on Warwick Road. -The matter was postponed to next meeting. The Board rose.
