Clerk of Course : Mr C. Colson. Clerk of Scales: Mr G. V. Tate.

The revival of racing at Bell Block under the new club on Monday was a splendid success. Tho meeting was held in Mr 0. Rundle's ,paddock, which is I situated about half a mile beyond the village. With a few slight improvements the course will make an excellent one, and as tho club will come out with a credit balance of about £40 over the meeting, any slight defect in the ground will be, without doubt, lemedied in view of future meetings. The weather, excepting for a slight shower about midday, was all that could be desired. There wore fully 700 people in the • ground, and the general opinion expressed by them was that a capital day's racing had been witnessed. The officers whose names appear in tho heading all worked well, and it was due to their united efforts that the meeting passed off as it, did without a hitch. The totalisator (the Waitara Club's machine) was run by Messrs Barford, Fraser, and Wilson in a most satisfactory manner, and in their work they were materially assisted by Mr N. King, who acted as totalisator steward. The tickets wore a pound, and a sum of £750 was passed through for the day. The " Bird - on-the-Wing" machine was run by Mr J. Butterworth, who appeared to do a good business. In the Flying the starter inflicted the following fines : —D. Crozier, £1 10s ; R. Johnston. £1 ,- Lett, 10s ;C. Riley, £1. The times recorded during the day were slow, but thia was accounted for by tho heavy going, and the course being a trifle rough, The only point that the Stewards had to decide during the day was in the Farmers' Plate, which was won by Atlantic, who was disqualified on the protest of the trainer of the second horse, on tho ground that he was not eligible as a hack as he had been entered and run in an advertised race (the Maiden Steeplechase at Hawera) on May 13. The owner of the third horse Jack then entered a protest against tho rider of the second horse Shamgar on the ground that he was a professional rider, and also against the horse on the ground that he had not been the property of the owner for three months prior to date of entry. This protest was disallowed, and the race awarded to Shamgar. The secretary (Mr Ambridge), carried out his duties in a courteous and painstaking manner. The results are appended :—: — Handicap Hack Hurdles, of 15 soys ; second horse 2 soys out of stakes. Over five flights 3ft 6in high. 1^ miles. Mr S. The quartette closed up at the mile, and on coming to the last hurdle it looked an open race. Lady Onslow led over the last obstacle, hotly pursued by Atlantic (the other two swerving off), the mare winning a fine race by about half a length. Time, 2rain 45 2-ssec. At tho back the rest of the field reduced Flukem's lead, but Handmaid and Leger soon shot their bolts, and Durus, lonic, and Sirius went in pursuit of the leader. At the straight entrance lonic fell back, and Durus and Sirius challenged Flukem in the straight, whips being out on all, but the chestnut, who was ridden desperately by Johnston, stayed it out all the way up, and wop by a bare half length from Duma ; Sirius a good third. Cockade held the lead for about four furlongs, when she resigned in favor of Shamgar and Atlantic, who entered the straight almost on level terms. A slashing race up the straight ended in a half length win for Atlantic; Jack a fair third.
