DECISION AFFECTING NATIVE LESSEES.

Wellington, May 23.

In the To Manaroa v. Public Trustee case, affecting many leases under " The "West Coast Settlement Act," judgment for plaintiff was given. The point was whether a lessee had absolute right to surrender a lease and obtain a new one, or whether the Public Trustee had some option in the matter, and the decision was that the lessee had no absolute right. It was stated that fourteen cases depended on the decision. Mr Bell obtained leave to appeal to the Privy Council.
