William Dalryrnple Mac Lagan, Bishop of Lichfield, succeeds the late Dr Magee as Archbishop of York. CRICKETING TEAM. Lord 'Sheffield declares that Gunn, Shrewsbury, and Attewell have absolutely refused to join the team which he is getting together to visit the Australian Colonies. MORTGAGE ON SANDRINGHAM. A statement is published that the Barings and Messrs Cristobal de Murriete & Co. (a South American and Spanish firm of merchants) have called in £300,000 of advances on the Sandringham estate, and the Queen has arranged for a renewal of the mortgage. ATTACK ON CZAREWITOH IN JAPAN. St. Petersburg, May 18. The wounds received by the Grand Duke are more serious than at first reported. The Russian Government intend to present Prince George of Greece with a medal, in recognition of his bravery in preventing further injury to the Czarewitch. Later reports which have reached the city state that the Czarewitch was assaulted on entering a temple. Another rumor current is to the effect that the Czarewitch and his companions were behaving in an unruly manner in a place of amusement, and that the assailant was unaware of their identity. The Czar is said to have severely censured his son and suite for their conduct. BETROTHAL OF CZARBWITCH. It is reported that the Czarewitch is betrothed to Princess Helene, of Montenegro. ROW IN BULGARIA. Belgrade, May 19. On Monday the Government took steps to enforce the notice served on exQueen Nathalie ordering her to quit the Country, and at their direction she was seized and thrust into a carriage which was then driven along the Quay escorted T>y a body of gendarmes. News of Nathalie's seizure quickly spread^ and a crowd soon surrounded the vehicle, and without much difficulty the indignant populace rescued the ex-Queen from the limbs of the law, and- conveyed her back to her residence. The principal merchants and all the students in the city disapprove of the action of the Government, and are upholding the cause of Nathalie. Hundreds of people are guarding her residence to prevent her recapture by the officei'3 of the Government. RIOT IN BELGRADE. In the evening a good deal of fighting took place in the streets of the city, and two. of the Queen's supporters were killed. NAVAL ENGAGEMENT EXPECTED. New York, May 18. Latest .intelligence from Acapnlco is to the effect that the Esmeralda and the United States cruiser Charleston are lying within a short range of each other, and that both vessels are chared for action. CHASING THE ITATA. New York, May 19. The United States ciuiser Charleston, which had cleared for action with a view of a brush with the Chilian rebel steamer Esmeralda, has left Acapulco harbor. Her commander suspects that the Itata passed Acapulco without calling in, and he has accordingly gone south in search of her. • ,
