At the Haymarket, on Saturday, pigs sold at fair prices, slips making 5s to bs b'd, larger sizes Ss to 10s. A good number of horses ware offered, and nearly all sold at prices in advance of late rates, hacks ranking 12 to £5 10^, borse, saddle and bridle £8. 1 light draught do £9. At the mart, fowls made Is to Is 9d, onions Id, potatoes 2s 6d to 4s, barley 2s 9d, bran -Is, bacon 3^d, tea 13s, sdgar 3d. Sundries and furniture made fair prices, Frnit. —During the week Island oranges made 5s 6cl to Gs, bananas 2d to 2£d, cooking apples 5s Gd, dessert do 7s to 8s 6d, quinces Id per lb. Cattle. — The Stratford yards were crowded on Tuesday, and the sale was most successful, nearly every pen being sold at the hammer, a few pens of small cattle only remaining unsold. Bidding was keen and prices high throughout. Calves 14s to 245, yearlings 22s to 30s, 18months to 2-vears steers up to £2 10s, 2iyears steers £2 12s Gd, 2^ to 3-years £3 3s to £3 4s, 18 months heifers 30s to 325. store cows 42s tc- 50s, fat £2 17s 6d to £3 3s. The sheep were not sold. Very few dairy cattle were yarded. —The Waiwakaiho sale ou Thursday was again most successful, prices ruling higher than ever. The yards'were crowded with cattle, and all sold splendidly. Calves and yonng steers ranged higher than last sale, but as at Stratford very few dairy cattle were yarded Nearly al! the sheep sold. One pen of lambs was passed. Of the cattle not :i dozen psns were passed all day, and nearly all them were quitted afterwards. Calves made 14a to 225, small 7s to 11s, yearlings 24s to 28s, 18-months steers up to 40s. 18-months mixed 37s 6d, heifers 28s to 325, 2i steers £2 15s, 3-yeare £3 4s to £3 7s, store cows £2 to £2 10s, fresh £2 12s Gd to £2 15s, fat £2 15s to £3. springing heifers £2 15s to £2 17s 6d, cows £3 to £3 10s, Lincoln rams £2 123 6d to £3 os, lambs 7s to 8s 6d, old ewes 5s 9d to 8s Gd, 4-tooth 11s to 11s 7d. Land. —On Saturday I sold under the hammer 18i acres, near Stratford, for £77 10s to Mr ilaloney, and 145 acres, known as Hamblyn's Farm, near Waitara, at £5 0s Gd per acre ; also goodwll of lease of GO acres for £100, both to Mr John Winks, of Hawern. ! Produce. —Butter remains as last quoted. Grass seeds are in demand, especially j cocksfoot and Italian rye. I would remind farmers that next 1 Saturday is the last day for entering keg | butter for the Jubilee Exhibition, and I sincerely trust our dairying community wil take this chance of showing what our district can do in the production of butter and cheese.
