USING UP TIME.
__ Some curious particulars have been published concerning the very methodical way in which the late Dr. Austen AUibone, the author of the well-known "Dictionary of British and American Authors," and other books, was accustomed to apportion his time. It appears that he was perpetually at work, and that ho did not like to waste even so much as five minutes of his working day. In order to keep himself up to the mark in this respect, he caused to bo printed a card, which ho hung in his library, and which ran somewhat as follows : — 6 mm. a day = 80 hrs. 25 mm. a year. 15 » 91 ~ 15 „ 1 hour „ 305 „ 0 „ Thus a loss of five minutes a day means a loss of three full working daj sin a year ; a loss of a quarter of an hour a day means a loss of nine full working days in a year ; and a loss of an hour a day means a loss of thirty-six full working dnys in a year. In ten years, by saving an hour a day, a man may gain a full year of working days. And what cannot be done in a year? You may learn two languages, or you may read through a hundred volumes. Therefore, cave your time.
