NO PRIZES AT THE CENTRAL SCHOOL.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — In your Budget of December 20th I read a letter by one of your correspondents expressing surprise that the children attending the Central School had no prizes given them. Now, Mr Editor, I think the action of our School Committee men is yery unjust to our children. It certainly is not the way to get them to earn' their own prizes in the future. I myself shall not allow any of my children to' take part in school entertainments iv the future, if this is a sample of their policy. I hear they talk about giving all those who have passed certificates, with their photographs attached thereon because it has 'worked well down South. Now, I think if they want to try a new fad they should ha vo worked it up long ago, and then the children would have known what to expect. All our other schools in this district give prizes at the breaking up; and why cannot it be done at the Central ? I do not believe in their certificates; and my opinion is a good book is far better, as it is something that will be useful to them when taken up to read. Then, again, the cost of the photographs will be very great; and what is the good of them ? None at all, that I can see. Ido not want my two children that passed at the Central School to get them, because I consider they are worth less. I hope other parents will- take this matter up, and see that the youngsters' money is fairly spent. Apologising, Mr Editor, for taking up so much of your valuable space, I am, &c, Another Surprised Parent.
