The Royal Society has awarded the Clarke medal for scientific research to Professor Hutton, of Christchurch.

Ibbot has successfully completed his long fast. He is emaciated and weak, but otherwise he appears to be well. On examining the kerosene bond, after the fire was subdued, the surprising discovery was made that, despite the intense heat, the inner layer had escaped damage.
