THE GENERAL ELECTION.

POLLING DAY. XXXIS DAY. The polling for the election of members for the House of Representatives took place to-day (Friday) throughout the colony. The election of a member for the New Plymouth seat did not appear to create any undue excitement among the town electors, but a quiet interest was taken by them, judging by the many who went into the booth to record their j votes. Good humour was tho order of the day, and there was a total absence of the wordy or weighty argument which sometimes characterises an section day when rival factions meet. It iq, however, expected that a little excitement will be generated when the numbers come in from the polling booths to-night.
