SENSATIONAL POLITICAL MEETING IN AUCKLAND.

MITCHELSOX EXPOSED. [PKB PR-83 ASSOCIATION.!

Auckland, December 3. — One of the most sensational political meetings held since the beginning of the present political campaign took place on Tuesday night, when Mr Adam Porter addressed a meeting of city electors. Mr Parter received a fairly patient hearing, but after the address Mr Desmond, one of the leaders of the labour party, ascended the platform and read the following letter from Mr Mitchelson to Mr Ewington, of the Employers' Association : — " Dear Sir, — Funds will be forthcoming if required, but if possible men must be chosen who are possessed of private means that our resources may not be undul}' strained. I would suggest McMillan or Upton. No effort mast be spared to win, as everything depends thereon. The labour party in the city are not to be despised, for although disheartened by the late defeat, yet there are some evil spirits among them who will cause trouble. As to the Committee, I will see you personally. — I remain." Here Mr Desmond paused, and then, in reply to loud calls from all parts of the hal for the name, exclaimed, '* The name is Edwin Mitchelson." These words caused a tremendous scene, and after much uproarious conduct the meeting broke up in great confusion. Auckland, December 4. — The Hon. Mr Mitchelson has sworn an affidavit that the letter read by Mr Desmond at last night's meeting is a forgery. The affair has caused great excitement.
