It was stated at the Borough Council meeting on Monday evening that the whole of the Borough Loan has now been taken up.

The Registrar of Friendly Societies, Mr Mason, addressed a meeting of members of those bodies in Auckland ou Monday night. During the address he urged at some length that the scale of contributions of Friendly Societies should be in propoition to the benefits. Mr Mason leaves Auckland for New Plymouth to-day (Tuesday), and will address members of the local Societies to-morrow (Wednesday) evening, as will be seen by advertisement elsewhere.

At the Borough Council meetiug on Monday evening, Mr Collis drew attention to tho very dirty state of the Powderhamstreet bridge on Sundays, and asked that, as the bridge was very largely used on that day, it might be swept on Saturday afternoons.

The ladies who are working for the bazaar in aid of the funds for improving the Recreation Grounds have requested us to state that donations to aid them in their object will be thankfully received. Anything left at Mrs Yates', Brougham-street, or with the other ladies of the Committee, will be duly acknowledged. The bazaar comes off on' November 10th, when a grand display of work will be shown in theAlexandra Hall by the ladies who are interesting themselves in the matter.
