EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present.: Miss Heywood, Messrs T. Kelly (chairman), Teed, Bauchope, Faull, Olson, Adlam, and Andrews. Fencino.—B. Vickory's tender for erecting fencing at Eltham Road School at Us per chain was accepted. Confirmed.—The action of the Chairman in granting a month's leave of absence to Mr Dempsey, headmaster of the Central School was confirmed. The Town School Committee were to bo asked to forward the medical ceidficate in connection with MrDempsey's leave. Kaiviata.—The fencing of the Kaimata Road School site will bo attended to when the Board's funds will permit Miss Rose Earle was appointed sewing mistress to the school, appointment to date from i October 1. !
Resignation. — Mr Wood head's resignation of the "Waiongona School was accepted, and steps will be taken to fill the vacancy. Mr Ronaldsou waa appointed temporary master of the school at a salary of £2 10s per week, appointment to date from September 8. Waitara. — Miss Winchester, mistress at the Waitari School, was granted leave of absence on account of ill-health.. Miss Jonas was appointed temporarily to the "vacancy at a salary of £1 per week, the appointment to date from September 4. The Board decided that the unused portion of the Waitara School site, viz., block 118, Waitara West, be offered for lease for 7 years on the following terms : — The occupier to grub the furze within one year, and enclose the ground within an approved fence. The Waitara Committee will be informed that the ventilation of the schoolroom will be attended to when the Board's funds will permit. Huirangi. — The Board decided to supply hat hooks to the Huirangi school as applied for by the Committee. Jubilee. — In connection with a circular received from the Jubilee Committee, the Board decided that a Committee consisting of Messrs Bauchope, Teed, and Olson be appointed to co-operate with the General Committee to assist in the Jubilee Celebration next year. Rahotu. — A colonial oven will be supplied to the Rahotu Committee for the teacher's residence on the usual conditions. The question of the proposed alteration at the school was referred to the Inspector and Architect for their report. Opinion. — The Board's solicitor, Mr C. W. Govett, forwarded an opinion that a Commissioner appointed by the Board could vote as a Committee, in returning members to the Board. Resignation. — Miss A. Stockley's resignation as pupil teacher at Fitzroy School was accepted. Lessons in Geography.- Mr Kelly moved, j " That the Inspector be requested to confer I with the Teachers' Institute on the question of eliminating certain names of places in geography which are of no special importance, such names when eliminated not to be included in the Inspector's examination, and report to the Board." After discussion a division took place, when the motion was negatived. Ayes (4), Messrs Kelly, Wade, ! Andrews, and Adlam ; Noes (5), Miss Heywood, Messrs Bauchope, Faull, Olson, and Teed. Accounts. — .The ordinary accounts were passed for payment. The Board adjourned. (For continuation of newt see 4th page.)
