POLITICAL GOSSIP IN WELLINGTON.
fFROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] OAMARU HARBOUR AND THE RAILWAYS. Thursday, September 11. —A rather curioua instance of the conflict between the railways and the shipping interests is afforded in a petition recently presented by tho Oamavu Harbovir Board, in which they state that tlieir revenues are being seriously diminished owing to the reductions made on freights to Oamaru by the Railway Commissioners. The Board also alleged that special arrangements have been made by the Commissioners to take away the business from the port. The Public Petitions Committee report as to the alleged grievance, and the solution suggested that the Commissioners may be prevented from entering into undue competition with them, that as it opens up a large question of public policy they have no recommendation to make. NEW PLYMOUTH HAEBOUR LOAN DEBENTURE HOLDERS. Some weeks ago a number of New Plymouth Harbour Board debenture holders petitioned for relief from a grievance alleged to be sustained by them in consequence of the reduced land revenue of the Board. The Public Petitions Committee now report that, in their opinion, the peti • tioners have no claim against the colony, on the grounds that the debenture holders have been left in undisturbed (?) possession of their original security. EXPORT OF FISH. A return presented to Parliament yesterday gives particulars of the export of fish and bonuses paid thereon up to the 31st August labt. The value of the canned fish exported was £11,111, and the bonus paid £2593. Of this amount Auckland exported £5349 worth, Dunedin £3856, and Wellington £1598. The value of cured fish exported was £19,561 (Dunedin £18,265), and tho bonuses paid on it £1734.
