TfilAL OF FUNOKB, THB MDBDBHBR Auckland, September 11. Henry Funcke was indicted yesterday in the Supreme Court for the murder of Constable McLeod, at Mangawbare. The prisoner's counsel objected on the grounds of insanity. Drs King and Moir deposed that Puncke was insane, but Dr Philson swore lie was sane, and a man of niore than ordinary intelligence. After a long deliberation, the jury found the prisoner sane, and the trial was proceeded with. bHIP <'N FIRE AT T,YTTBLTON. Lyttelton, September 11. The cargo of the American brigantiue Nettle was discovered on fire last night, and was subdued with difficulty, The vessel has 3ft. 9in. of water in her. No doubt spontaneous combustion caused the fire. The second mate, Blyneti, was stupified in his cabin by the smoke, but was got out and restored. A fireman named Graham was also stupefied with smoke issu ; ig from the hatch, but was restored.
