COLONIAL STRIKES.
FREE LABOUR IN EXCESS OF DEMAND. Sydney, August 30.—The Mayor has commenced negotiations for biinging the strike to a conclusion. Free laborers are in excess of the demand. ..MINERS DISSATISFIED. j Newcastle, August 30.—The miners are dissatisfied at the action of the Trades and Labor Council, and they think that since they have been called out they ought to have received better support from the Council. A meeting is to be held today to consider the matter. BOARD OF CONCILIATION. Adelaide, August 30.—The Chamber of Commerce has telegraphed to the Sydney. Melbourne, and Brisbane Chambers asking them to take united action in urging their respective Governments to establish Boards of Conciliation. The Sydney Chamber has replied deprecating undue haste at present. SHORT OF GAS, • Melbourne, August 30.—The oity was ■ left without gas last night, the Gas Company being desirous of storing what gas they had for to-night. STOPP/NG MASS MEETINGS. The Government have issued a proclamation forbidding unlawful assemblies in the Trades Hall. THINGS QUIETING ,DO WN. . Brisbane, August 30.—Affairs in connection with the strike are quiet.
