Tenders for half a million Treasury bills have been opened. £324,000 was offered, varying from par to 30s premium, and including £200,000 at par.
Melbourne, May 28.
The want of confidence debate is proceeding. The Premier defended the Budget in a speech of great length, and severely handled MrJ.Munro for saying that the Budget was a fraud and sham.
Sydney, May 28.
A coal train on a private line at Singleton, 147 miles north-west of Sydney, ran away through the breaking of a coupling. A quantity of rolling stock was smashed, and the guard had a narrow escape.
