MURDER IN RECREATION GROUNDS.
(Continued in column 7.)
The inquest was kept waiting for Mr Okey, one of the jurors, who did not put in an appearance at half -past 2 o'clock. A messenger was despatched to see Mr Okey, and when he returned it was learned that Mr Okey was ill, and needed the attendance of a doctor.
A note from Mr Okey was read by the foreman of the jury, in effect that he ("Mr Okey) could not attend the inquest that afternoon, as he had been taken ill.
The Coroner then stated that he would adjourn for half-an-hour in order to learn from the doctor Mr Okey's condition. On the inquest resuming, Dr. O'Carroll handed in a medical certificate in effect that Mr Okey was so ill that he could not possibly attend for three days. The Coroner said that he would go on without him, as it was legal to do so. Evidence was then continued.
