Easter Monday being a public holiday the Herald will not be issued on that day. The 8.3. Doric's departure for London has bean postponed to May l£th. The Wailii races on. Monday will be attended by a large number of Waikato natives who have come down specially for the occas-ion. The Rev. Father McKcnna will hold Mass in town at 8 a.m. and 10.30 a.m., and vespers at 7 p.m. on Sunday. Durus, the local hack, was takon down by train this (Saturday) afternoon in order to fulfil her engagements at Patea on Monday. The District Court in Bankruptcy sat on Thursday, when Mr Hughes applied for an order of discharge for Mr W. Carter of Inglewood. The Assignee had no objections. The order was accordingly granted. The local bowlers left for Wellington on Friday morning. They return on Tuesday night in company with the Auckland rinks. On Wednesday next the two clubs will play a match on the local green. An entertainment will shortly be held at Waitara in aid of the Bupli Fires Relief Fund. Mr Clark is getting it up; Mr Ogle will give +he free use of the Hall, and the Waitara Brass Band will give their services on that occasion. The Auckland bowlers on their way to tho Wellington tournament arrived by the Wanaka on Friday morning, but missed the through train and had to spend the clay in town. They left by the four o'clock train for Hawera, intending to go through ♦o Wellington by Saturday's train. Sympathisers with tho sufferers by the b ish fires will have an opportunity on Monday night of giving practical expression to their sympathy, and at the same time enjoy an exceptionally good musical entertainment. We are requested to state that the seats will be raised for the occassion, and the price also raised to two shillings for that part of tho Hall, the rest of the floor and gallery remaining as before. Housewives who delight to make delicious and wholesome pastry for their husbands and bairns should be sure to use Renshaw's perfected baking powder, for by its use indigestion &c, may be prevented. The children have a great treat in store for them on Monday next at the Recreation Grounds Sports. The Committee have been to some expeese in bringing the lifeboat of the Hawea —kindly lent by Mr F. P. Corkill —from the breakwater and placing her on the " Ree" pond, where she will ply for hire under the charge of two members of tho late Lighter Company, who have generously given their services for the day So parents need have no fear in trusting their children under the care of two such experienced boatmen as Messrs Joseph and Stockman. —The charge will be very small, co wo hope to see the venture well patronised. Mr Samuel, M.H.R., on behalf of the Auckland bowlers, telegraphed to tho Chief Commissioner of Railways on Friday asking for a special train from Hawera for the bowlers who had missed the morning train for Wellington. The Commissioner sent a reply on Friday night stating that owing to the holidays he was delayed in sending a quick reply on account of the Telegraph Office being closod. With regard to the request he said that he would endeavor to arrange for a train to carry the Aucklauders from Hawora to Pahuerston on Friday night in order that they could arrive in Wellington on Saturday morning by the ordinary train from Palmerston.
