TORCHLIGHT PROCESSION.

The day's festivities wound up with a torchlight procession, which started in a reverse order to that of the morning, from Mount Cook Barracks. Shortly after eight o'clock the streets were lined by thousands of people, and every point from which a view could be had was crowded. All buildings along the route were brilliantly illuminated, and, together with the pyrotechnic display from many of the vans in the procession, made the sight one that could not be easily forgotten. The illuminations were on an exceptionally large scale, and at times the whole city appeared to be ablaze.
