THE WAITARA REGATTA.

Dear reader, do not harshly chide This vain, though seasonable chatter; But let the Muse her hobby ride, Upon the theme of the Regatta. One well-known maxim's verified, About thig moat important matter; " For no man waits the time or tide," That flows t'wards Waitara Regatta. Girls on gay boating dress decide; Boys with hard training grow no fatter; All strive with pardonable pride To gain a prize at the Regatta. Mothers, whose care would once provide Cakes, cream, — and puddings made of batter, Now sco their sons well satisfied With brandy and raw eggs supplied, And milkless tea, ere the Regatta. Music for rowing's set aside; — Young people much prefer the latter — And zealously their time divide 'Twixt household work, and the Regatta! Beneath the bridge the whaleboats glide; Across the bridge spectators patter; Some to applaud, and some deride The practice for the great Regatta. Large orders come from every side To tailor, Bhoamaker, and hatter; Fine brand-new garments to provide To wear at Waitara Regatta. Vast crowds flock in from far and wide, With more or less degree of clatter; Not one would wish at home to bide, And miss the Waitara Regatta. Champions roll up, in football tried; — The bowler neat, and ardent batter; — Each lover brings his f nture bride To grace the scene of the Regatta. Let each fond impulse be denied, Nor surplus coin too freely scatter, Until with energy you've cried : " I'll spend it all at the Regatta !" Each other topic long has died — At any rate it doesn't matter, — But no one fails your thoughts to guide Towards the event of the Regatta.
