TARANAKI COUNTY COUNCIL.

I'H.IS JDA.V. A special meeting of the Taranaki County Council was held on Wednesday. Present : Messrs Price (chairman), W. Bayly, T. Bayly, Adlam, and McGregor. Dog Tax. — It was decided that the dog tax fee for the ensuing year should be 2s 6d for cattle dogs, and 5s for other kinds, the tax to be collected in the office. Mr Lawson, the Registrar, to have 10 per cent, commission for collecting. Tenders. — Tenders are to be called for supply of dog collars, and also for adver tising and printing. Collecting Jiaten. — The Secretary was empowered to proceed to the country for the purpose of collecting rates. Chain Bridge. — The question of repairs to the Chain Bridge, Junction Eoad, was carried, after which it was decided to adopt the Overseer's plan submitted, and to proceed with the work. Notice of Mot on. — Mr McGregor gave notice of motion — " That the Council take into consideration the best means for providing maintenance of roads in the Moa Riding." Tenrler Accepted. — J. Williams' tender for supply of timber for the Chain Bridge was accepted conditionally on his finding approved sureties. — It was also decided to call for tenders for carting about 230 yards of stone to the Chain Bridge site. Tollgates. — The Chairman was instructed to provide three reliable men for the purpose^ of collecting the tolls for one month in order to ascertain the value of each gate. Tho Council adjourned.
