INGLEWOOD.

BUSH FIRES IN MOA DISTRICT. Decemm;r 2. — From the dense columns of smoke which enveloped Inglewood on Sunday I was not surprised to hear of some damage being clone. Mr McCormack, of Wortley Road, had a large iron-roofed cowshed burnt ; Peter Hunter and Edward Parkin had a difficult task to keep the fire from destroying their residences, but, by i the assistance of some neighbours and their j own children bringing water and throwing it on the iirc, they managed to keep it down. Mr H. Brown's mill hands had to keep watch in turn during the night, for had the wind changed to the south-east it would have been a hard job to keep the fire from catching the mill or the vast quantity of timber which is stacked in the yard. It would have been a very serious matter to tho people of Inglewood had the mill takon fire, for half of the inhabitants would have had to clear out. I am told that several of the settlers had to remain up all last night to protect their 1 dwellings. It can easily bo under.-4ood that there was plenty of tire and smoke all round Inglewood when one of the Salvation Army compared it to hell, and told borne of us sinners that fire and smoke would be our doom unless we got saved. I attended the Church of England last evening to hear Rev. Mr Farley's sermon on " Purudi.se." U was v grand sermon, and the church was crowded to excess, a number of forms having to be procured from the Town Hall and placed along the centre of tho church. The rev. gentleman will no doubt have very larye congregation* j whenever he preaches tit Inglewood. He is logical, easily understood, aud has a pleasant and attractive delivery; whilst his sermons huve npt the slightest taint oi : pijflptry about thorn,
