PRESENTATION TO MR J. C. CAMPBELL.
A number of clients of the Bank of New South Wales met at the Criterion Hotel on Monday night, for the purpose of presenting to the late manager, Mr J. C. Campbell, a souvenir on the eve of his departure for New South Wales. The souvenir took the form of a handsome album, which was presented by Mr A. Goldwater, who read the following testimonial after a few appropriate remarks: "Dear sir, we, the undersigned clients of the Bank of New South Wales at New Plymouth, learn with regret that you are about to depart from amongst us. While thanking you for the courtesy which you have always shown us, we desire to express our admiration of your business ability, and beg your acceptance of the enclosed souvenir, which we present as a small token of our respect for you. Wishing you prosperity in your new sphere, we are, dear sir, yours faithfully.' The signatures then follow.
Mr Campbell, in reply, said he was surprised at being the recipient of such a handsome present, but had great pleasure in receiving the token as a mark of the kind feelings which they had towards him. He also stated he was sorry to leave New Plymouth owing to the very pleasant and enjoyable time he had experienced during the eight months he had been stationed here. He had anticipated a longer stay, but his friends, no doubt, would bo pleased to learn that his transfer meant promotion. Mr Paul said, although not a client of the Bank, yet he could fully endorse the words spoken by Mr Goldwater, and those used in the testimonial.
Mr Campbell left for Wellington, en route to Sydney, by this (Tuesday) morning's train.
