THE WHITE-BYED KAFFIRS AT FITZROY.
O.v Thursday night " The White-Eyed I Kaffir Minstrels " appeared at Fitzroy to a I very good house. The interior of the hall was moat tastefully decorated with bunting, on which were inscribed appropriate phrases, such as words of welcome, and wishing success to Fitzroy. The stage was also a feature, it being ornamented with ferns among which were hung Chinese lanterns. On the whole the interior arrangements were most striking and effective. With regard to the programme snbmitted, it must be stated that it was an excellent one, the chair business being remarkably good. Mr Frank Newell (Tambo) was encored for " Clara Nolan's Ball," and Mr. J. Birch (Bones) received a similar compliment for " Still Alive and Kicking, 0!" The other numbers that took well were " Climbing up the Golden Stairs," sung by Mr Flynn (Tambo) ; " Meet me at the Golden Gate," Mr Kelly (Bones) ; 11 Papa's Baby Boy," Mr Webber ; and " Kiss me, Mother, Kiss your Darling," Mr T. Wood (interlocutor). The " Hoop-la" overture, by the orchestra, must not be omitted. In the second part, Mr Kingsley ■ acored an encore for " The Suicidal Family," his get-up being exceedingly j taking. Messrs. Flynn and Birch were also encored for a double song and dance, \ j entitled, " Heel and Toe" ; and Mr Kisby also suffered a re-call for the character song, " Keep in de Middle ob de Road." A. stump oration, " Soap Fat," by Mr Wood, took well ; and the same must be said of the instrumental quartette, " Reaper's Chorus," by Messrs. Oakes, Birch, and Sturmey (2). For the song and dance, "Caroline," Mr Flynn was encored. A farce called " Bells," in which most of the company took part, followed by a walk round, entitled " Hurry Up," concluded a most enjoyable entertainment. A dance followed, and was well patronised. It must not be forgotten that Messrs Kisby and Oakes presided at the piano during the performance, and that Mr C. Johnson wiled away the intervals by his capital violin playing, and also played at the dance.
