TOWN BOARD MEETING.

Septbmbbb 14. — The monthly meeting of tbe Inglewood Town Board wbs held in the Board's office on Thursday. Present: Messrs J. C. Peach (chairman), G. S. Kennedy, H. W. Marsh, and W. H. Franklyu.

Mr Price, Chairman of the Ccunty Council, attended the meeting. He stated that he was instructed by the County Conncil to see about getting gravel from the Town Board's pit. The Aot provided that the County Council could enter any private ground for the purpose of obtaining gravel for the use of the County roads, and he therefore considered the Council hid a right to remove gravel from a public reserve withoat the payment of a royalty, and the Council was prepared to make good any damage done to the Town Beard's streets by tbe carting of the same by the contractors. He said he connidered there should b» a clause to that effect in the agreement. — The Chairman of the Inglewood Town Board said that the ground in which tbe gravel pit whb, was not a reserve, but a recreation ground, and he Cor one objeoted, if it was possible to obtain gravel from any other place near the township, to breaking up any part of the recreation ground. The Town Board receive no royalty, but Mr Bancroft, the person who has leased the ground for a term of 14 years, receives it, iv accordance with an agreement with the Board. The Board, howevei, were quite willing to meet the County Council, and deal favorably with it, a* the Board were aware that the metalling was for the benefit of all parties. A letter was read from Mr Marcbant, M.H.R., re tbe sitting of a Resident Magistrate at Inglewood oace in two months; from the Justice Department; from Mr O. Miles re drain near his section. — The Clerk was instructed to acknowledge Mr Marchant'B letter, and to thank him for his courteous reply. The Chairman stated that Mr Franklyn, Mr Marsh, and himaelf had seen Mr Sanderson about the alteration of the Town Hall, and his opinion was it would be better to dispose of the present hall and erect & new one, as the alteration would cost from £250 to £300, and then it would not be a satisfactory job. It was agreed to abide by Mr Sanderson's advice, and as boou as tbe Board were ia a position to do so they would carry it out. The Chairman proposed that the Board should form itself into Committee and inspect the different parts of the town which required repairing, &o. Agreed to. —The Chairman also reported that Mr Franklyn and he had visited the Kirapiti bridge, and found it in a most dangerous state, also that the bridge near Mr Bracegirdle's required repairing. The Works Committee were instructed to see to the Kirapiti bridge at once, and Humphries-street at the same time. — It was agreed to apply to the different mill owners for a quotation to supply from 3000 to 5000 feet of totara.

The GUrk was requested to write to the Manager of Railways re fencing in tbe line at Inglowood so as to prevent cattle and children from crossing from one side of the township to the other. Very recently a child was nearly run over by the train. If this is not fenced there will be some seriona accident ultimately. Therefore it is to be hoped the railway authorities will see the necessity of tbe line being enclosed. — Tbe Collector's report was read as follows : Balance in hand of Collector on 31st July, 1889, £6 11s 2d ; rates, 1888-89, 13s Id ; rates from reserves, £1 19s 94; rant from cottages, lls; dog tax, 15s; 1889 deposited by treasurer in bank 30th August, £8 10s; balance in hands of collector on August 31, £2.— lt was proposed by Mr Marsh and seconded by Mr Franklyu, " That a rate of £ d in the £ be itruok on all rateable property within the town district," Carried. This concluded the business.
