+. . STRIKERS LOSING SYMPATHY OF PUBLIC. INTIMIDATION COMMENCIK G. [PBB PBEB3 ASSOCIATION.] London, September 9. — Lord Mayor Whitehead, Cardinal Manning, and Bishop Temple have jointly published a letter, stating that they are nnable to understand the rejection of their proposals by the men, and if they persist in it the strikers will greatly forfeit public sympathy. It is stated the man will resume work it the sixpence an hour rote begins ia October, and the Lord Mayor is trying to induoe the Companies to grant an increase at an earlier date than January, as at first arranged. The strike leaders and Burns deny accepting the compromise, bat Lord Mayor Whitebead, Cardinal Manning, and Bishop Temple declare to the contrary. tjfcThe pickets totally blinded by quicklime the men wishing to work. Barns, the Socialist, announces that he will contest the Dundee constituency at the next election.
