RECOGNITION OF BRAVERY.

At the Borough Council on Monday night, the Mayor presented to Mr John Harvey, twenty-one years of age, the certificate of merit of the Royal Humane Society of Australasia, for saving John McGKven, aged three years, from drowning in the Te Henui River on May Bth, 1888. In making the presentation, His Worship said he hud received a lettei irom the Colonial Seoretaiy asking him to present the certificate on behalf of His Exoellency thb Governor. His Worship made a few upprupriate remarks, in whioh he hoped that Harvey's manly qualities would be a great suocees to him through life, which he had no doubt they would.
