FRONTAGES IN DEVON-STREET WEST.
Thb following letter having reference to the frontages in Devon-street, which appeared in the Tabanaki Herald of Jul> 6th, 1882, we publish for tbe information of those whom it may concern :—: — (To the Editob ofthbTaranaki Herald.)
Sir,. — In your isßue of yesterday you give a report of that which took place at the meeting of tbe Borough Council on Monday, the 3rd instant, and by the Waterwoiks Committee report it is shown that the Mayor is requested to ask the Government to hand over to the Borough a strip of land in Devon-street fronting sections 644, 645, and 646. I now, therefore, consider it my duty to state that the strip of land referred (o is the property of the ownerß of the said sections 644, 645, and 646, and for the reason which I now state, viz.: These three said sections were duly and officially selected on the 15th November, 1841, before the Mougatuku River was diverted, and the selections were made with the distinct understanding that I should be allowed to divert the Mon^atuku River to the course it now takes ; and that such diversion should in no way interfere with tbe rights of the owners' frontage in Devon street. It was not until the 31st May, 1842, that I made arrangement to commence cutting the said diversion, nearly six months' after tbe sections had been selected. — I am, &c, Fred. A. Cabrington, Formerly Chief Surveyor of Tunmaki. New Plymouth, July 5, 1882.
