RAILWAY MANAGEMENT. TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, — I have been requested by several individuals to pen Ibis letter to your paper ia hopes of good results from the ventilation of Bume: — Can you tell me what becomes of the pence — sometimes as much as fiVe at a. Time — that are often stopped by station officials when the public do not bring the exact change for their tickets? I have often lost the sime myself; and only the other day a statioomaster deducted one penny from my ohan^e. Of course, the amount if- small, and the officials have law on their aide, but if I wob & stationmaster I should use my brains and have a few stamps to rnaka tioid the chauge. Their is no excuse for their not doing this; they need never be without change if they would act upon this hint. Upon making enquiries one gentleman toH me he bad fivepeiice detuined. Now, sir, don't you think the Railway Commissioners are putting temptation in the way of their officials by Buch a law ? tt is often impossible for a country person to obtain exact chauge; not so the officials, who could always have stamps on band or give a stamped ticket for the amount, which could be cashed upon some future occasion. 1 huve penned this in the hopes of it catching the eye of the Railway Commissioners, and to keep my word to those whom I promised to write tor.— -I am, &c, J. Arthur Jones. ftnuide, Stratford, j. üMu M 27, j^p,
