NORTHERN MAIN TRUNK LINE. Wednesday, June 26. — Tha North Island members are " girdingf up their loins " for the fray in connection with the Main Trunk Line, and in few days a large deputation will wait oa tbe Government, headed by Mr Bruce, it is said, to urge on the Government that they should continue the line one section from this end, and make connection thence with Auckland by road. OTAGO CENTRAL RAILWAY. It is Btated that the Government will propose to carry on the Otago Central Pailway to Kyeburn, providing the funds partly out o£ the last Land Fund and j partly out of the unexpended balance of the Otago Central vote. LAW PRACTITIONERS BILL. Sir G. Grey will introduoe his Law Practitioners and other hills identified with his name at once. SIR'J. HALL'S ILLNESS. Mr Fulton moves to-day for ten days' leave of absence for Sir J. Hall on account of illness. TOWN V. COUNTRY. A meeting of city members was convened by Dr. Fitchett, Mr Percival, Dr. Newman, and Mr Thompson waß held this morninn. Mr T. Thompson was in the chuir. The question of the margin to country districts was considered at length, and eventually it was decided, on tbe motion of Dr. Fitchett, " That as the town members apparently would not be able to get the margin reduced, they should protest strongly against any increase.' 1 The principal speakers were Mr Bairon, Sir G. Grey, Dr. Newman, Mr Percival, and Dr. Fitchett. About twenty-three were present. A deputation will also wait on the Government at au early date. REGULATION OF PENSIONS. Mr P>ke wants to know if the Premier will bring down a Bill for the bettor regulation of the payment o: pensioas to ablebodied officers and providing for the cessation of Biich payments during a period for which any pensionary shall hereafter be elected to the House of Representatives, or be elected or appointed to the Legislative Council, or hold a seat therein.
