We are pleased to hear that the Art Exhibition, which is to ba opsned next week in St. Mary's Schoolroom, promises to be a great auooass. Exhibitions of this kind in the past have been very successful, aad the coming one should be even more so than its predecessors, as the nu saber of exhibits promised have exceeded the most sanguine expectations of the promoters. Within the last year or sa a number of new settlers have come into thu placej aereral of whom have brought articles interesting as works of art or from their antiqaity, and the committee have been most successful in securing these, and nnearthing a number of similar artioles, which have never been on Exhibition before in New Plymouth. The opening ceremoay will take place on Wednesday ne^t, the Ist May, at 2 o'clock, His Worship the Mayor having been asked to officiate, and the Exhibitibn will remain open on the three following days. And added to the attractions a mnsioal and dramatio entertainment will be given on each evening, for admission to which no extra charge will be made. The proceeds are to be devoted to St. Mary's Church, and we hope to chronicle a substantial sum being realised as the result of the Exhibition. The Auckland bowlers, says the Herald, who went to the Taranaki bowling tournament, roturned on Thursday. They are tolerably wall pleased respecting their victory over the Wanganui and Wellington men, as well as v/ith the result of the match North v. South, but there is a good deal of chagrin OA«r the unexpected defeat experienced at the hands oE tha Taranakians, which is attributed in part to bad generalship. It seems that in this match, instead of playing according to the rinks in which they had practised on the Auokland bowling green, and in whioh they were accustomed to each other's play, that several changts were made in the oompoiition of the team, whioh proved disastrous to any hopes of success. Some of th* bowlers take the matter philo sophically, and will await with patience the advent of the Taranakitns in Auckland next year in order to obtain their revenge.
