LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT.
A Lawn Tennis Tournament was began this (Saturday) morning on the New Plymouth Club's grouad, bat on acooant of the rain piay bad to be discontinued after the " doubles " between New PJymonth and Waagaaui had been decided. The local team consisted of Messrs Qavan, Harrington, Little, and Brooke-Smith, «ho scored 40 ; and the Wanganui team consisted of Messrs DennistoD, Marshall, Ward, and Dawson, who scored 27. New Plymouth therefore won by 13. Play will be resumed on Monday.
The Darwin cable line ia interrupted north of Powell's Creek. The traffic will be forwarded by Boebuck Bay cable. Captain Edwin telegraphed at 3.30 p.m. thiß afternoon :—" N. to W. and S.W. gale after twelve hours from now, with heavy sea. Glass fall soon; indications of rain." Bismarck's idea of the Samoan question : " C'eat moi I" Tbe coat of tho Paris Exposition will be £2,000,000.
