TOWN IMPROVEMENTS.
Ml< G. CURTIS'S RESIDENCE. There has just been completed at the intersection of Brougham and Vivianstreets a villa residence for Mr G. Curtis, late of Omatti. The building is erected on the lines of cottage architecture, although two storied, nnd has a frontage to Brougbman-street of 38 feet with a depth of 30 feet. In height, the structure is 21 feet, and is roofed with corrugated iron. The whole framing is o£ rimu, the rusticated boarding and flooring is oiatai, while the structure is fuuishsd throughout with varnished rimu. The ground floor is bisected by a passage, seven feet wide, in the left side of which are a bedroom and kitchen, both with fireplaces, while on the right are a parlor with fireplace, and another bedroom. On the top floor, which is reached by an easy staii way, made of kauri, with a " picked "rimu raiiin, there aro four Epacious bedroom?, and a bathroom. A casual look through the building, which is jiißt on the eve of leaving the hands of the contiactors, gives one the impression that the work of erecting has been carried out in a highly satisfactory manner, and Messrs Hooker aud Walker, the contractors, have reason to be proud of their work. The doors, sasheß, and frames were made at the Sash and Door Factory, and the stairs and mantelpieces were the work of the contractors themselves. Mr N. Hooker did the brickwork and foundation ; Mr Bellrioger the painting, papering, and glazing ; and Mr Howell the plumbing. All the work has been carried out to the complete satisfaction of Mr Sanderson, the architect.
