CHARGES AGAINST A RAILWAY COMMISSION liR. DEFEAT OF THE GOVERNMENT. [l'lJlt PRESS ASSOCIATION.! Sydsey, January 9.—ln the House of Assembly this erening Mr Want, who brought the former charges against Mr Fehon, one of the Railway GoramiFsionera, i moved the a'jonrDment of the House, ia order to complain of the manner in which | the Governm nt hidroaducted tho enquiry. He contended that the euquiry was not a proper one, and reiterated the charges he made on a former occasion. He made a loag statement of. charges which he considered the Government should enquire into and explain. Mr Want mado out a strong case, and influenced the members on both sides of the Houae, who called on the Premier to explain. Sir Henry Pnrkeß declined to do \hh, and left the Chamber during the j discussion, and only returned as a division was being taken on Mr Want's motion for adjournment, which was carried by 37 to 23. Immediately the result was announced Sir Henry Porkes wired to His Excellency the Governor, who is on a visit to Mosgvale, asking him when tie would return. It is believed in certain quarters that the Premier courted defeat, as he is diagnsted with the recent disclosures, and Intends to resign.
