January 7. — Our School Committea met on Monday evening, Doceraber 31. Present: Messrs U-. A. Adlam (Chairman), W. Pearson, J. Jury, and {H. Wood. Some correspondence was read from the Board about the small number of marka for sowing in the Omati and Koru Schools, hoping better results would be forthcoming at the nest examination. It was moved that the resignation of Mrs T. Penwarden, sewing mistress at Oakum, bo acceptnd. It was decided to let to Mr A, Bailey tho part of Koru School silo between the Koru Road and O.ikura River at 2s Gi per annum, ho having to keep the fnize down. Accounts amounting to £6 llh 6 1 were passed for payment. Tho Chairman spoko of the mistress of Koiu School not sending in her quarterly reiurnß like the other two school teacher", but I havo uo doubt he will look to this himself, as it is his work to do so.

There iias been a little life here durins tho past week for those who like to enjoy it. Private picuics, as woll as public ones, have been eujojed by tne settlers. On Tuesday the Koru people had a picnic for the children, with a daucn in tho evening, which went off very well. The children' enjoyed themselves to their hearts' content; whilst in the evening the older ones danced until a littlo after inMni^ht, when all returned home, well pleased with their day's enjoyment. On Fti lay a liirsie picuic was held near Kaitake, and during the day a number of settlers wero seen wending their way in that direction, but tho haymaking being in full swing tended, however, to keep avray, many who thoii'/ht it better to work and make hay whilst the sun shone. Thoso who did go state that they fully enjoyed themselves In the evtninsj there was a dance as usual, which was well attended, though some few well-known faces wero conspicuous by thfcir absence.
